About how it all started
It all started with a saree Or rather, with a relationship that had always been filled with small fights and big silences—the classic mother-in-law, daughter-in-law dynamic, except it was just my mom and me.
Things got better when I moved to Bangalore for work. The distance softened our edges, and we became warmer. One Tamil New Year, I came home just the day before. That’s when she showed me a saree she had bought for me A heartfelt gesture that felt like a silent truce. I wanted to wear it, but there was just one problem, I didn’t have a blouse (full disclosure, I have worn saree only twice in my entire life) .
Exhausted from travel, I dreaded the thought of running around for a ready-made one or dealing with our local tailor who was quite rude, dismissive, and never gave on promised time.
So I thought, why not order online stitching? It was 2023! startups like Swiggy, Zomato, and Dunzo had made convenience the norm—surely, online tailoring should exist too, right? But to my surprise, I found nothing.
In the end, I wore a T-shirt as a blouse and styled it as an Indo-western outfit. My mother, ever the traditionalist, didn’t say much, but I could tell, it wasn’t the moment she had imagined. It felt like we still had a long road ahead. Which made me realise clothing was more than a mere outfit.
On my train ride back, the idea sparked: what if getting something stitched was as easy as ordering food? What if we removed the stress, the travel, and the outdated processes to create a modern, women-first tailoring experience?
